The four apples were now colored. I needed to select the background to make it brown. All my apple selections were saved as Alpha channels, 1-4. I chose Select > Load Selection. In the dialog box I chose Alpha 1 and clicked Ok.

Then I chose Select > Load Selection again and, by clicking on the Channel down arrow, chose Alpha2. I chose the Add to Selection radio button and then clicked Ok. I did this for all four apples, to end up with all apples selected.
       Next, I chose Select > Inverse. This made the background the selection. I could then color it, using Hue/Saturation.
