page twoIn the Hue/Saturation dialog box, I checked the Colorize box and the Preview box. When adding color to black and white, always have the Colorize box selected unless you are purposely looking for unusual effects as I demonstrated in the ‘More Adjustments’ section of my Tips.

I repeated this process for the other three apples. You may find it easier to type values in to the Hue, Saturation, Lightness boxes, since the sliders can be hard to adjust precisely.
If you would like to add additional, local color highlights to your image using the painting tools, try using a low opacity, and the Color blend mode. Make these settings in the Options palette before you apply the color. Expect to have to experiment to find the right opacity. Lower is better. Try starting with opacity at 10 %.
