6.0 Combining Images
page oneThere are several ways to go about combining images in Photoshop. I’ll show you the way that is easiest to understand.
I am going to put the peony, shown below, on top of the maidenhair ferns, shown at the bottom of the page. Both images are at the same resolution. Be sure this is the case whenever you move parts of one image onto another.
If you don’t know your image’s resolution, click on its title bar to make it the active window, and then choose Image > Image Size. The resolution is shown in the Document Size part of that dialog box. Without making any changes, click OK, or Cancel to close the box.

The first step is to make a good, precise selection all around the image
you want to move. I made a rough selection of the flower with the magnetic
lasso. You can use the regular lasso
if you prefer. To choose either of these tools, click on the lasso icon
in the toolbox, and pick the one you want from the pop-up menu. Check
the tool’s options bar, and make sure the New Selection box is chosen.
Leave anti-aliased selected. Set Feather
to zero pixels.
After I had a rough selection around the flower, I clicked the quick
mask button in the toolbox.
