Here is the Contrast/Brightness comparison. In Photoshop v. 6.0 I chose Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Contrast/Brightness. In version 5.5 you would choose Layer > New > Adjustment Layer and choose Brightness/Contrast from the menu.
     In the dialog box, with Preview checked so I could judge my changes before applying them, I gave the image a + 25 % contrast change. I did not change brightness.
     The adjusted image detail is shown on the left. The original, unadjusted image detail is shown on the right.
