Combining Images II

In the first ‘Combining Images’ tutorial, I showed you how to move an image onto a another image by dragging it to its new home, and blending the edges.
      However, if you want the moved image to be partially covered by objects in the image it has been moved to, it is a little bit more complicated.
     I’ll show you how to use a layer mask to do this with the following two images.

I want to take the apple, shown below, and move it to be positioned just behind the snake. The bottom third of the apple will be obscured by the snake’s body.
     A selection was drawn around the apple using the techniques described in the first Combining Images tutorial. I then used the move tool to drag the apple onto the snake image.
