emboss

 

The emboss effect is created by adding a highlight, and shadow to opposite sides of the layer contents. Below you can see the effect, alone against the background. The effects are added on separate layers above the layer they are applied to. The shadow layer has a blend mode of Multiply, and opacity of 75 %, while the highlight layer has a blend mode of Screen, and an opacity of 75 %.

The dialog box for the various Bevel and Emboss effects is the same. For details, and illustrations of all the settings affecting the Emboss style, please see the main Bevel and Emboss page.

Below is an example of the Emboss effect applied with its default settings.

And here is the Layers palette after the effect was deconstructed by choosing Layer > Layer Style > Create Layers.
